Anyone see this excellent 4-part drama on BBC 1 just before Christmas? I think it was excellent, indeed wonderful in parts. A good review can be found on the Jesuits' website.
There has been some criticism of the fact that Mary did not actually say the words, "Be it done unto me according to your word," although I think that was implied. Ignace de la Potterie would have criticized the assumption, based on the common translation, that Joseph suspected his wife of adultery - apparently the Greek is more ambiguous, and could imply that he knew from the outset that this was a supernatural event but was only concerned that he was unworthy to have anything to do with it, hence his decision to "send her away". But this is a minority interpretation, after all. Other quibbles could be raised, for example to do with the Magi, but what the heck - it was an amazingly good production, very moving and uplifting, and the portrayal of Mary in her purity was superb.
