A guided tour of religious art and artefacts at the National Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum, with Catholic art history expert Dr Clare Hornsby.

Fee £30 for the day to include both museums. Advance booking essential via ResSource.

Dr Clare Hornsby is an art historian and is Paul Mellon Special Fellow at the British School at Rome. Her special area of study is the art, architecture and social history of the 18th century in England, France and Italy and has published scholarly works in this field. During her 8 years living in Rome she developed her understanding of Christian art and accompanied groups of research students to visit and examine the countless sites of importance in and around Rome; she has a particular interest in the spirituality of the Roman baroque. She is a mother of 2 teenage children and teaches the Parents' Catechism for First Communion class at the London Oratory, under the supervision of Fr Rupert Mc Hardy.

We are looking at images of Martyrs and Martrydom with a digression to look at depictions of S. Michael the Archangel. We will look at sacred objects in the V and A related to the cults of the martyrs.
